Dambly's Four Step Lawn Program Instructions
Step 1 Crabgrass Preventative & LIME:
The rule of thumb is mid-March through mid-April. Still, a good indicator that the ground temperature is warm enough occurs when the Yellow Forsythia Tree is in bloom. Lime should be applied before or along with the first Step. Never Mix in the spreader; Evenly distribute each product on the ground individually. Water in or allow rain to do the work. DO NOT SEED WITH THIS PRODUCT FOR THREE MONTHS AFTER.
Step 2 Weed Killer:
5 weeks after the first Step is applied, the second Step goes down. Depending on when you applied Step One, this bag can be laid down from mid-April through late May. Preferably, we wait as long as possible to allow the ground to warm up. Small quantities of lawn weeds, like dandelions, should be controlled with Liquid weed Killers until this application is applied. If your lawn is not spotty but full of dandelions, it is okay to get the product down.
Do not cut the lawn at least a week before application. Having the weeds out and actively growing will make this product more effective. Step 2 must be applied to a wet or dewy lawn so the product activates and sticks in place. This is the only Step that must NOT be watered in, and there must be no rain for 48 hours after application. This is a topical killer, so flushing this product into the root system will make it ineffective. DO NOT SEED WITH THIS PRODUCT FOR 8 WEEKS.
Step 3 Green up:
This application is just for greening and should be put down the last week of June through the first week of July. NEVER OVER 90 DEGREES. Water in or allow the rain
to do the work.
Step 4 Winter Prep and Lime:
This application can be applied anytime from September through November. Lime should be used before or along with the fourth Step. Never Mix in the spreader; Evenly distribute each product on the ground individually. Water in or allow rain to do the work. If seeding in the Fall, seed in the first week of September with starter fertilizer and lime and use this final Step 6-8 weeks later.
