Design Your Own Perfect Patio Planter
There are three key elements to designing a patio planner that will be sure to drawl attention: a Thriller, a Filler, and a Spiller. These elements are all about creating an arrangement with height, dimension and color.
The Thriller is the eye catcher of the trio. It adds height and drama to your planter. If your planter will be viewed from multiple sides it is best to place your thriller in the center of your container. If you are planning to put it in a location that will only display one side you can plant the Thriller in the back. Fountain Grasses, Angelonia and Cannas are all good candidate
The Filler does exactly what it names says, fills out your planter and adds color and contrast to your Thriller. Choose a plant with a mounded silhouette to help cover up the any bare spots or stems of your Thriller. Place your Filler plants around or in front of your Thriller depending on the placement of your container. New Guinea Impatiens, Coleus and Geraniums are some options that can add a variety of color, but be creative!
Lastly we have the Spiller, which cascades over the side of the planter toward the ground adding another beautiful dimension to the mix. Some of our favorites are Potato Vine, Calibrachoa, Nasturtium and Vinca Vine.
